Ron's Tractor Chug In June 2006 Ron Moyse from Bow, Crediton entered the Guinness Book of Records for being the oldest person to drive from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a tractor at the age of 73.The inspiration for Ron’s journey came from his friend Bobby Pellow, who had died earlier that year after an 8 year battle with cancer, two years previous Bobby had done the trip from John O’Groats to Land’s End on his tractor raising £32,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK he then challenged Ron to follow suit. In memory of his friend Bobby, Ron took the wheels from the Massey Ferguson tractor that Bobby had used to complete his journey and fitted them to his 1968 Ford Dexta 2000 tractor. Ron used a 38 year old Ford Dexta to complete his 840 mile journey, the tractor was from his own collection of more than a dozen tractors. Ron completed his trip in 10 days, and raised over £6,000 for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support. This year Ron is planning to set off on his tractor once again this time to travel from Land’s End to John O’Groats, we wish Ron all the luck with his new adventure. Updated: 16th June 2008 |
