Category E award winner – Frank Brzeski

Category E award winner – Frank BrzeskiFrank Brzeski organised a very unorthodox end to end in August 2008 that saw 14 riders on vintage autocycles and cyclomotors complete the journey at John O’Groats.

The riders were all members of the National Autocycle and Cyclomotor club, and drove machines that have engines ranging from 49cc to 98cc but also have pedals.

Frank himself, who lives in Norwich, chose a 1953 Ducati Cucciolo engine mounted on a sit-up-and-beg Raleigh bicycle.
His previous efforts include the record for the smallest capacity machine to do the run, which was done on just a 22cc bike.

The latest comical journey took them 11 days and was plagued by mechanical problems. The mobile workshop that assisted them proved invaluable.

Frank went through over two hundred spokes by the time they reached Warrington. It was there where they acquired a heavy duty rear wheel from the local post office, and continued without the use of a rear brake.

They made many pit stops and were fuelled with coffee and ice cream that kept them going and they found all sorts of innovative methods of keeping the rain at bay, not least with plastic bags in their boots. Despite the arduous struggle, an enjoyable time was had by all, with many a tale told by the group.

The organisation raised £5,000 for their troubles which was donated to Bolton Stroke Unit and the Lifeboat charity, RNLI.
