Category C runner up Nigel Davies and started their charity motor cycle ride at John O’ Groats with several days of fine weather.Nigel, who was joined by Mark Ridgway on his bike and Richie Ireland and Nick Benes who followed in the support vehicle, went slightly off-the-beaten-track as they wanted to incorporate the most Easterly and Southerly points of the British mainland into their route. This would see them heading towards Lowestoft and to the Lizard Point as well as the more familiar sights on the end-to-end route. They found their campsite in York underwater and a Scottish red squirrel had a lucky escape in front of the bikes, but the team took great satisfaction from the journey and enjoyed the companionship and camaraderie along the way. A minor breakdown near St Austell was soon repaired at no charge by a friendly local motorbike shop and the boys finished at Land’s End on the 12th September 2008. The ride fetched £2,000 for Hope House Hospice and The County Air Ambulance Trust. Updated: 26th July 2010 |
