Award Category B Applicant Les Harrison decided to attempt the solo end-to-end as a “last fling to his life on a bike”.Prior to the start he had not ridden more than 50 miles in a single day for many years, yet when he averaged 80 miles a day and finished his journey in just 13 days carrying all his supplies with him, Les was well within his own estimates. Despite the notorious Land’s End weather at the start, a lost camera in Cheddar, 3 days of rain up north, and a broken rear hub on the last day, Les would still like to do it all again, next time in the opposite direction. He did endure toothache however for 3 days, and wonders if dentists in Scotland really are as scarce as they seemed to be when he most needed one. Updated: 26th July 2010 |
