Award category B applicant David Woodhead He had previously never cycled more than 20 miles in a day and the first time he sat on a road bike was at the start line at Land’s End on 20th September 2008.He encountered sun, rain and hail and several punctures but arrived at John O’ Groats 14 days later. David, from Guiseley in Leeds, admitted it was an epic challenge and without training took a huge amount of personal determination. He travelled alone without support and planned his route through the west of the country no more than one day at a time. The effort was well worth it and David testifies that the achievement was a strong case of mind over matter that saw him complete the challenge. Updated: 26th July 2010 |
