Award category A runner up John Trafford due to the drugs he has to take, but fortunately; he recovered and completed his journey from John O’ Groats to Land’s End in just 38 days. The start of his journey was already delayed following his participation in the British Transplant Games earlier that month; John had a kidney transplant in 1997. On the 20th August he began walking, and to avoid some of the roads, took in the Great Glen Way and the Highland Way on his route. The weather was wet and windy on the first half of the trip but improved to good sunny conditions in the southern half of England where he enjoyed some of the canal routes to break away from the traffic. John of Cambridge, Gloucestershire, felt good prior planning was important and his thorough organisation made for good going on his walk. His daily walking routine began at 8am and he stopped once an hour for 5 minutes for refreshments. He gives thanks to his sister, Yvonne, and her husband Dave Mansford for their valued support and use of the campervan. John arrived at Land’s End on the 26th September raising £3,214.69 for the Cotswold Care Hospice. Updated: 26th July 2010 |
